Beautiful temples in Nakhom Pathom – Wat Samphran, the dragon temple

In addition to Phra Pathom Chedi, another temple worth a visit in Nakhom Pathom is Wat Samphran, dragon temple. It is just outside from Bangkok (around 35km away) and easily accessible with bus 84 from BTS Bang Wa.

Dragon temple is one of a kind what i have seen in Thailand. It is tall round building with big dragon figure around it.

Overall the atmosphere is really non touristy and quiet. Most of the people here are Thai who come to this temple to make merit and pray. There is no entrance fees but donations are highly appreciated and they will be used to do maintenance of this amazing temple.

You can actually walk up to the top of the building where you can see all the way back to Bangkok. It is a good 10 mins walk inside the tunnel that is actually inside the dragon around the building.

Once you have reached the top, you can enjoy the amazing views and see the head of the dragon very close. It you have fear of heights, please think twice about walking up as the temple is around 80 meters tall.

Right next to the round tower, there is another temple buildings with big Buddha statue and other holy items.

This place is awesome destination for a (half) day trip from Bangkok. Only negative thing on visiting this temple is that the traffic towards Bangkok through Nong Khaem is usually pretty jammed.

Like Buddha once said “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”
